Day 1 report – 2024 ILCA 4 Youth Europeans

Racing started today at the 2024 ILCA 4 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy in Izola, Slovenia.

Consistent 6-8 knots of breeze blowing from the West enabled all 7 fleets to successfully finish the initial two races as planned.

This year, the competition feature the participation of 407 young sailors, comprising 243 boys and 164 girls from 38 different nations, with 34 of them coming from Europe. Among these sailors, 148 are under the age of 16, making them eligible to compete for both the Overall and U16 prizes.

After the first two races, provisional leaders are as per follows.


Girl’s provisional results

Sara Lacko HUN, the reigning 2023 EurILCA Europa Cup champion in the girls’ category, took the early lead in the European championship by securing a 1-2 score today.

She’s closely followed by the Under 16 leader Gabriela Morell ESP (3-3) and Maria Christina Melaniti GRE (4-3).

Completing the U16 provisional podium are Beatriz Caetano POR (7-5) and Blanca Ferrando Babe ESP (1-14), currently placed 6th and 9th overall, respectively.

Boy’s provisional results

Nathan Wehrle FRA kicked off the championship with a flawless score of 1-1, positioning himself at the helm of both the overall and Under 16 championships.

Joining Nathan at the forefront of both competitions are two other U16 sailors. Francesco Tesser ITA holds the second position with a score of 3-2, while Gal Einav ISR follows closely in third place with a score of 1-6.

The championships will continue tomorrow with two new races as per scheduled. First warning signal is planned to be at 12:30. Coaches meeting at 10:30.

Two races are scheduled per day until Friday 12th, when the winners will be announced and presented with prizes during the closing ceremony.
