The third edition of our Solidarity Programme is fully delivering fun and sportiveness this days in Vilamoura, where the 2020 Laser 4.7 European Championships are being played.

Early within the first days of races we have interviewed some of people involved to get they first feeling about the programme.

“The aim of the Solidarity Programme is to support sailors without enough funds to join the Laser 4.7 Youth European Championships” explained Ms. Burcu Algon Giorgianni, director of the programme. “We’re offering the free entry and a high level coaching for sailors to have fair opportunities on water” she added.

Sailors are also given with clothing, gently provided by Rooster Sailing.

High level coach this year is Gonçalo “Xavi” Carvalho, very famous Laser sailor and Olympian coach: “I’m very glad to be able to participate and help the sailors here. I want to do this as much as I can because I think it’s a wonderful programme. I think it’s a great idea and I’m loving every minute that I spent on the water with the kids”, said coach and then added: “It’s challenging of course but also quite nice. I never saw them before so on the first contact I could see exactly on what kind of level they are and how can I help them to improve their abilities. They are quite young, so this is a stage of their career where we can make a difference and we can help them to achieve the goals they are wanting in their sport career”.

One of the sailors on programme, the Serbian Stefan Yuill, declared: “I didn’t think it was possible to come because of financial problems but now I made it and everything is good”. Stefan is currently ranked 87th of 107 sailors after 8 races, sailing in the Silver fleet.
