2017 Laser Standard Men’s World Championship started today in Split, Croatia, with first two races.

148 participants from 52 nations are being part of this competition.

Cyprus sailor Pavlos Kontides CYP (1-1) wrote a perfect score this evening and lead fleet with 2 points, escorted by French sailor Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA (2-2) with 4.

Sam Meech NZL (1-4), Giovanni Coccoluto ITA (3-2) and Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR (2-3) are also close with 5.

Places sixth to ninth overall are also occupied by European sailors Sergey Komissarov RUS (1-6), Nick Thompson GBR (3-5) and Philipp Buhl GER (10-1).

Great start for the British team, with Elliot Hanson GBR (2-10) and Michael Beckett GBR (5-7) also well ranked in places 10th and 13th.

2017 Laser Worlds – Day 1 full results.

Nice day for Dutch sailors Duko Bos NED (8-4) and Yuri Hummel NED (8-6) in 12th and 15th positions.

Jesper Stalheim SWE (10-4) is 14th overall, completing provisional Top 15 rank.
