The 2024 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy kicked off today in Bangor, Northern Ireland, marking the first day of competition.
Light to medium winds from South kept Bangor’s bay flat along the day.
The first set of races began at 11:00 as per scheduled in both courses. After two races per fleet, all 358 competitors returned to shore around 14:00 to enjoy of a meal and relax at Ballyholme Yacht Club’s facilities.
The following are the initial provisional results.

Race day 1 results – Girls
Martyna Stachowiak POL (3-1) leads both the overall and Under 17 girls’ championship, tied in 4 points with Gilda Dondona FRA (1-3). Third place overall for Tatiana Bougiatoti GRE (7-2) with 9.
Nika Fornazar CRO and Gaya Datiashvili ISR complete the U17 podium on places seventh and eleventh overall, respectively.
Race day 1 results – Boys
Top 3 sailors Floris Schraffordt NED (4-1), Healy Ryan AUS (1-4) and Dario Burlando ITA (3-2) are tied with 5 points and leading the overall standings after the first two races. Luca Centazzo ITA (2-4) is ranked third among Europeans with 6 points.
The European Under 17 championship is currently led by Davide Cosseddu ITA (8-1), who is in eight place overall. Kutnal Gunes Kurnaz TUR and Salvatore Mancino ITA complete the provisional U17 podium on places nineth and twelfth overall.
The 2024 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy are organized by Ballyholme Yacht Club and EurILCA.
