The 2024 ILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy started today at Nautical Club Kalamaki in Athens, Greece, the place where the Olympic flame was born.
The event is one of major events before Paris 2024, delivering four new spots (two in ILCA 6 and two in ILCA 7) for European countries yet to qualify for the event.
This year, the ILCA Senior European Championships counts with 142 ILCA 7, 107 ILCA 6 Women, and 71 ILCA 6 Men, totaling 320 participants.
Race day 1 report and results
Zero to three knots of wind during the first part of the day prevented racing from taking place.
It was only in the afternoon that the sailors were able to launch their boats into the water and compete in the first rounds of the championships.
The wind finally reached a good intensity, although towards the end of the first rounds of races it suddenly changed direction and some of them had to be cancelled.
The ILCA 7 fleets finally returned to shore without any races on scores, while the ILCA 6 Women and ILCA 6 Men could wrap the day with only one of the two scheduled races.
Lithuanian sailor Viktorija Andrulyte LTU was the winner today in the Blue fleet, while Elena Vorobeva CRO did the same in the yellow one. Both sailors are also in the fight for qualifying their nations to the Olympics so it’s a double prize for them.
Yeah I had a great start. I was open my eyes to see where more pressure is coming and I catch the pressures. I was nervous of course but yeah, I think it was important to see where the first pressure was coming. And I used it so. And I was fast and very confident about my speed so I really enjoyed it – Viktorija Andrulyte LTU

German sailors Julia Buesselberg GER and Pia Kuhlman GER come next with 2 points, followed by the 2023 World champion Maria Erdi HUN and Evangelia Karageorgou GRE with 3. Evangelia is also in the fight for qualifying Greece to Paris 2024.
The ILCA 6 Men’s Overall and Under 21 championships are led by local sailors Konstantinos Portosalte GRE, Nikolas Komianos GRE and Alexandros Eleftheriadis GRE with one to three points respectively.
Three races are scheduled for tomorrow, with the first warning signal at 12:00. Coaches meeting at 10:00.
