Day 4 – First Day of the Final Series in Croatia

The fourth day of the 2026 ILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy in Kaštela marked the beginning of the Final Series for the Olympic classes, with sailors in the ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 Women fleets competing for the first time in gold, silver and bronze groups.

The day started with a 45-minute postponement ashore while organisers waited for the sea breeze to fill in across the race areas. Racing eventually got underway at around 13:00 on both courses in approximately 10 knots of wind.

Conditions steadily strengthened throughout the afternoon, with the breeze building to an average of 15 knots and waves reaching between half a meter and one meter, creating demanding and physical racing for the fleets.

Three races were completed during the day. The opening races of the Final Series immediately produced some changes in the standings of the Olympic classes, as sailors battled for position in the gold fleets entering the decisive phase of the championship.

The ILCA 6 Men fleet, racing throughout the championship as a single fleet without final-series divisions, once again showed remarkable consistency at the top of the leaderboard. The three Italian sailors continued to firmly control both the overall standings and the under-21 classification, maintaining their advantage after another strong day on the water.

With only two racing days remaining, the fight for the European titles in Kaštela is becoming increasingly intense as the championship approaches its conclusion.

The event continues tomorrow with three scheduled races across the fleets, with the first warning signal for Gold fleets set for 12:00.
