Kacper Ziemiński’s Essential Tips for Sailing the ILCA 4 Euros in Puck

Hello everyone! If you’re preparing for the Youth European Championship in Puck this June, here are a few things I’d recommend to keep in mind for a successful and enjoyable regatta experience:

Focus on Trim Based on Conditions:
As you know, conditions can change rapidly on the water. It’s important to constantly adjust your trim based on wind, waves, and other factors. ILCA trim can vary significantly depending on the conditions.
In my time, we had different mast tops and sails, so when it comes to trim, it is certainly different than the one we sail on today, but I remember that we collected quite a lot of the so-called luff and we were making a light balloon at the bottom just for this crooked wave, and a tight sail, the boat was flat.

Be Prepared for the Waves:
Puck has its own unique set of challenges with waves and wind patterns, so be ready to adapt. The ‘crooked’ wave (ta czopiasta fala) requires a specific technique and attention to your sail trim and boat balance. You’ll want to be quick to adjust the luff and balance your boat flat on the water.

Choose the Right Sail:
Picking the right sail is crucial, as the conditions on the water can range from light winds to stronger gusts. A well-chosen sail makes all the difference in maximizing your boat’s performance.

Stay Focused and Adapt:
Pay attention to the weather forecast, your competitors, and how the conditions change throughout the day. Flexibility in your approach will be key to your success.

And finally, a big invitation from me:
