The penultimate day of the 2025 ILCA 4 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy concluded today in Puck, Poland. Unfortunately, no races were held for any of the seven fleets due to strong weather conditions.
The day began with the AP flag raised ashore as winds averaged 25 knots with gusts exceeding 33 knots on the course. Given the conditions, the Race Committee developed a backup plan, whereby only the Gold fleets would be called onto the water. This plan was set into motion 30 minutes later, once anemometers showed slightly improved conditions of 17-25 knots.
The Girls’ Gold fleet started first under 18-20 knots winds, followed by Boys’ Gold fleet as the wind increased to over 20 knots. Unfortunately, conditions deteriorated quickly during the first leg upwind leg, with gusts escalating to 30-35+ knots. As a result, the Race Committee raised the AP over Hotel flags to abandon both races and instructed all sailors to return safely to shore.
The RC continued monitoring forecasts and real-time conditions, but determined that the chances of fair racing were too low. At 13:11, AP over Alpha was displayed, officially concluding the day for all fleets without any completed races.
To help sailors recover their energy for the final day, pasta was served immediately after the abandonment. The forecast for tomorrow predicts more strong winds and rain – fingers crossed for a window of opportunity!
