2026 ILCA Under-21 Europeans Race day 4

Lightning, swell and a fading breeze on day 4 of the 2026 ILCA U21 Europeans

Race day 4 of the 2026 ILCA Under-21 European Championships & Open European Trophy in Bodrum was dominated by the weather again, with lightning, rain, strong gusts and a fading breeze all in the space of a few hours. In the end, no race could be completed, and the standings remain as they were after day 3.

The sailors went out at 10:00 for a planned start at 11:00, but the Race Committee stopped the first two start attempts by raising the AP flag during the starting procedure, with winds of 11 to 12 knots at the time. The Race Committee then decided to move its boat further out in the bay. Once it was set in the new position, a lightning storm approached on the horizon, and all sailors were asked to return to shore.

After a long wait ashore for the storm to pass, and still in the rain, the Delta flag was raised again at 14:00. The races started again at 15:00 in 18 to 20 knots of wind and a choppy swell of around one metre. But the strong breeze lasted only a few minutes before becoming lighter, shifty and patchy, so the Race Committee raised the AP over Alpha flags, abandoning all three races in progress and sending the sailors back to the club.

With four races completed per fleet in four days of competition, there are still two days left to catch up with the schedule. The men’s final series, originally planned to begin today, has yet to start. The forecast for the next two days looks promising.

Racing is scheduled to continue tomorrow, with the first possible warning signal at 13:00.
