The European Laser under 21 Championships & Trophy 2017 continued today with two new races in Douarnenez, France. Sailors have completed now all four first races scheduled and a discard has been applied on scores.
Stable wind from West with 10-16 knots and big waves marked great sailing conditions we’ve enjoyed today.
European Laser U21 championships – Day 2 – Girl’s results
Girl’s fleet is showing a great and tight competition, now led by Irish sailors Aoife Hopkins IRL (3-1-4-1) with 5 points, closely followed by previous leader Laura Oliva Vidal ESP (1-2-5-7) with 8. Same score for Irish Aisling Keller IRL (4-8-1-3) and Russian Mariia Kislukhina RUS (2-13-2-4). Fifth place for British sailor Clementine Thompson GBR (8-5-3-2) with 10 units.
“I had a solid second day on the water at the under 21 Euros with a 4th and a 1st, putting me in first position overnight! We had about 12 knots and big waves. Still a long way to go yet!” declared Aoife after races on her Facebook page.

European Laser U21 championships – Day 2 – Boy’s results
Boy’s competition is even tighter on top, with first 3 sailors draw in 5 points. Spanish athlete Joel Rodriguez Perez ESP (1-BFD-3-1) could discard now penalty received yesterday and has become new provisional leader, sharing score with British sailors Sam Whaley GBR (3-1-UFD-1) and Daniel Whiteley GBR (2-1-2-3). Just one point behind them is Polish sailor Jakub Rodziewicz POL (3-4-1-2) with 6.
U19 championship is now headed by Brazilian sailor Stephan Kunath BRA with 25 units and 16th overall, followed 3 points behind by first European Omer Boaz Golani ISR on place 21.
