The 2023 EurILCA Europa Cup ITA continue in Riva del Garda, at event organized by Fraglia Vela Riva in collaboration with the EurILCA which has gathered a fleet of over 700 boats, representing over 48 nations. Numbers never seen before for an ILCA regatta, skillfully managed by Fraglia Vela Riva which, to best accommodate the participants split into two locations, arranging a good number of boats in Spiaggia Sabbioni, a few hundred meters from the clubhouse in Via Maroni.
Today, thanks to an Ora wind that blew less intensely than yesterday, the Regatta Committee managed to complete the qualifying races series thanks to the performance of two other races which, added upon yesterday’s ones and by taking into account the discarded race, have begun to shape the ranking of the various classes.
Among the ILCA 4, the ranking is very short: by virtue of four firsts, Alessandro Cortese of the Club Velico Crotone holds the lead, but behind him there is a great opponent, with Manuel Henk Vos of Fraglia Vela Malcesine who has caught him and Alina Shapovalova, already under 16 class champion, who goes up in third place, just one length behind.
Among the ILCA 6, with males and females racing separately, among the girls it is always the Czech Alessia Palanti watching everyone from above and lengthening her distance from the opponents. Emma Mattivi, representing Fraglia Vela Riva, is still second but slips to five points, three ahead of Carlotta Rizzardi of Circolo Vela Torbole, who thanks to the discarded race has freed herself from the ballast represented by the twenty-fourth place in the first race. In the men’s field the situation is more balanced with Mattia Cesana and Antonio Pascali of the Fraglia Vela Riva who advance arm in arm and earn one point on the Irish Rocco Wright, an old acquaintance of the Lake Garda Meeting Optimist, who is still paired with Massimiliano Antoniazzi of the Adriatic Yacht Club.
Among the ILCA 7, the battle between the Peruvian Stefano Peschiera, first with three points, and the duo formed by the Australian Alexander Finn and Alessio Spadoni of the Società Triestina della Vela who follow him at seven points fires up. In this class the leading trio made a wide gap compared to their opponents: the fourth, Paolo Freddi of Club Vela Civitanova, is twelve lengths behind the first three.
The regattas of the 2023 EurILCA Europa Cup ITA will resume tomorrow at 12.30 with the fleets divided in Gold and Silver.
