The 2025 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy concluded today in Vilamoura, Portugal, after six days of competition and the completion of all twelve scheduled races.
A northwesterly wind ranging from 10 to 20 knots set the stage for the final two races, providing thrilling conditions to crown the following champions and medalists across all four competitions:
Girls’ overall championship – Gold for Greece
Last year’s Under 17 champion, Hermione Ghicas GRE, secured the Overall gold medal this time to claim back-to-back ILCA 6 Youth European titles. The Greek sailor delivered an impressive and consistent performance, leading the fleet throughout the entire week. She won five of the twelve races and discarded a 12th-place finish as her worst result, ending the championship with just 26 points.
Speaking of consistency, it was also a great championship for reigning ILCA 6 Youth Under 17 World Champion, Sienna Wright IRL, who closely chased the leader throughout the week in second place. She finished just 10 points behind, placing between first and eighth in all twelve races.
Third place overall was for last year’s Gold medalist in Northern Ireland, Alina Shapovalova UKR, who signed off with back-to-back wins today in the final two races.

Girls’ Under 17 championship – Gold for Spain
Reigning 2024 ILCA 4 Youth European champion Gabriela Morell ESP was ultimately crowned the Under 17 winner after leading throughout the week in Vilamoura, claiming back-to-back Gold medals at the Europeans.
Silver and Bronze U17 medals went to Hanna Marie Tvete NOR and Amber Knape NED, respectively.

Boys’ overall championship – Gold for Spain
Spanish sailor Tim Lubat ESP could finally bounce back to the top spot today after scoring a 1-2 and was crowned ILCA 6 Youth European Champion with 48 points, having won five of the twelve races throughout the event.
Overnight leader Alexander Hartsink NED took a step back today, finishing 47th in the first race. However, he ultimately secured second place overall and won the Under 17 Gold medal!
Last year’s Under 17 European champion, Alessandro Cirinei ITA, made an impressive comeback in the final days to claim the overall Bronze medal, finishing just one point behind Hartsink.
