The 2024 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy will start tomorrow in Bangor, Northern Ireland, with the first day of registration and equipment inspection.

A total of 368 young sailors from 38 nations around the globe will come together to participate in this competition.

The Men’s fleet will be the largest, with 254 sailors racing in four groups: Yellow, Blue, Red, and Green during the Qualifying series, and Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Emerald in the Finals.

The Women’s fleet will consist of 114 sailors, competing in two groups: Yellow and Blue in the Qualifying series, and Gold and Silver in the Finals.

In addition to the Women’s and Men’s Overall prizes, the event will also host the Women’s and Men’s Under 17 championships.

Most of the world’s top ILCA 6 youth sailors will be in Bangor, including the recent 2024 Youth Sailing World champions, Maria Vittoria Arseni and Antonio Pascali from Italy. The Women’s Silver and Bronze medalists, Hermione Ghicas from Greece and Isabella Mendoza Cabezas from the United States, will also be competing in Ballyholme, ensuring top-class competition.

Event Organiser Aidan Pounder is pleased with the preparations: “With just a few days to go, Ballyholme Yacht Club is alive with activity, the infrastructure is almost complete, and it is great to see so many sailors and their coaches arriving early to train. The support from the Members and Sponsors has been absolutely amazing. We look forward to welcoming all the competitors, their families, friends and coaches to a superb venue for what we hope will be a fabulous European Championship”.

Racing will take place from July 29th to August 3rd, with two scheduled races per day.
