Opening Day in Thessaloniki: Two Races Completed for All Fleets

Racing got underway right on schedule at the 2026 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy, with the first warning signal sounding at 13:00 across both course areas in the Thermaic Gulf.

Sailors were greeted with a solid breeze of around 10 knots to open the championship, with conditions fluctuating between 7 and 12 knots through the afternoon session. The Race Committee made the most of the conditions, completing both scheduled races for all six fleets on the opening day.

Racing wrapped up at different times across the two course areas. On Bravo course, the two girls’ groups and the boys’ green group were back ashore by around 16:00–16:30. On the other course, the boys’ yellow, blue and red groups had a much longer day, still out racing as of 18:00.

It was the first of three scheduled days of qualifying racing, which will determine how the fleets are split for the final series later in the week.

After racing, sailors returned to the club to a well-earned pasta meal.
