The 2024 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy continued today in Bangor, Northern Ireland, with the second day of competition.
Insufficient wind in the early morning forced the Race Committee to postpone activities for three hours. Finally, at 12:30, the first fleets were allowed to launch their boats. The day proved challenging, with light and unpredictable wind conditions.
Despite the difficult weather, the Race Committee successfully completed both scheduled races for all six fleets.
It was a long and tricky day on the water for all 368 sailors, with the last fleet returning to the shore around 19:45.
Following these two new trials, here are the provisional results.
Race day 2 results – Girls
Gilda Dondona FRA from France is the new leader in the girls’ overall championship with 5 points. Hieke Schraffordt NED from the Netherlands holds second place with 7.5 points. Martyna Stachowiak POL from Poland, the leader in the Under 17 category, is in third place overall with 12 points, tied with Kleopatra Anastassiou GRE from Greece, who is ranked fourth overall.
Hermione Ghicas GRE from Greece and Sienna Wright IRL from Ireland complete the Under 17 podium, placing 9th and 13th overall, respectively.
Race day 2 results – Boys
Healy Ryan AUS from Australia is leading both the boys’ overall and Under 17 Open European Trophies, tied at 6 points with the overall European leader Dario Burlando ITA from Italy. Luca Centazzo ITA and Jacek Kalinowski POL complete the overall provisional podium.
The European Under 17 championship is led by the Italian sailor Manuel Henk Vos ITA in seventh place overall, followed by Alessandro Cirinei ITA and Konstantinos Portosalte GRE in tenth and fourteenth, respectively.
Tomorrow is the last day of the qualification series and the final chance for sailors to climb the leaderboard before the fleets are split into Gold, Silver, Bronze and Emerald for the boys and Gold and Silver for the girls.
Two new races are scheduled, with the first warning signal at 14:00. Coaches meeting at 12:00.
