Race day 2 report – 2025 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships

The second day of races concluded today at the 2025 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy in Vilamoura, Portugal.

It was a tough day on the water for both sailors and race officials. Shifty winds –changing in both direction and speed– led to multiple general recalls and several races being abandoned throughout the day. These unstable conditions were also accompanied by rain showers on five separate occasions.

After a demanding day of racing in challenging conditions, all four fleets eventually returned to shore—tired but welcomed with a warm pasta meal. Some fleets managed to complete two races, while others sailed only one. With three races now on the scoreboard, here are the provisional leaders so far:


Girls’ results

Reigning ILCA 6 Youth Under 17 European Champion Hermione Ghicas GRE secured first place overall among the women today, after finishing second in the red group and bringing her total to 4 points.

Sienna Wright IRL now holds second place with 7 points, while Mirja Dohle GER completes the provisional podium in third with 8 points.

Ellen Sampson AUS is currently fourth overall in the Open European Trophy with 12 points. Defending champion Alina Shapovalova UKR made a strong comeback, climbing from 10th to 6th place overall with 16 points.

The Under 17 championship remains in the hands of reigning ILCA 4 Youth European Champion Gabriela Morell ESP, who has climbed to 14th place overall with 25 points. She is followed by Amber Knape NED, celebrating her 16th today —happy birthday!— and Hanna Marie Tvete NOR, with 50 and 52 points respectively.

Boys’ results

Tim Lubat ESP secured the overall lead today with 6 points, though he’s now closely followed by Sergio García ESP and Georgios Mantis GRE, both just one point behind with 7.

Cédric D’Hondt BEL slipped from second to fourth overall, while Feodor Zoubovski CYP broke into the top five.

The Under 17 championship has a new leader: overnight second-place sailor Alexander Hartsink NED, now leading with 16 points. He is followed by Nikolas Komianos GRE and Jiri Tomes CZE, with 24 and 29 points respectively.

Jules Fortunati FRA and Levian Büscher GER round out the top 5.

  • Course Area A: Boys yellow, blue, red
  • Course Area B: Girls green

13:00 First possible start to all fleet race nº5 (see groups of 16/04/2025).
