Race day 4 report – 2025 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships

The first day of the Final Series wrapped up today at the 2025 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy in Vilamoura, Portugal.

Two new races were completed under fairly stable conditions, with light winds ranging from 7 to 10 knots—and no rain!

All 360 sailors representing 43 countries now have eight races on the scoreboard ahead of the final two days of competition.

Provisional results are as follows:


Girls’ results

There were no changes today in the top three positions among the women. Reigning ILCA 6 Youth Under 17 European Champion Hermione Ghicas GRE remains in the lead with 14 points, despite a less-than-ideal day, finishing 12th and 6th in her races.

Sienna Wright IRL, the reigning ILCA 6 Youth Under 17 World Champion and last year’s U17 European bronze medallist, closed the gap on the leader with solid 6th and 7th place finishes. She now trails Ghicas by just 5 points.

Reigning ILCA 6 Youth European Champion Alina Shapovalova UKR had a strong day, posting a 5th and a 2nd to secure third place overall and reduce the distance to both the Greek and Irish sailors.

Gaya Datiashvili ISR and Mirja Dohle GER swapped positions in fourth and fifth overall, now sitting 25 and 26 points behind the leader, respectively.

Reigning ILCA 4 Youth European Champion Gabriela Morell ESP continues to lead the Under 17 championship after winning her first race of the event today, climbing to 15th overall with 81 points. Amber Knape NED and Hanna Marie Tvete NOR follow close behind, tied at 105 points.

Boys’ results

It wasn’t an easy day on the water for the leaders, with several picking up high scores.

Overnight leader Tim Lubat ESP managed to hold onto the top spot, despite finishing 20th and 8th today. He now has a total of 21 points.

Sergio García ESP also retained his second-place position, despite a challenging day with finishes of 36th and 18th, bringing his total to 29 points.

It was a great day instead for the Under 17 leader Alexander Hartsink NED, who scored 10th and 5th to jump into third place overall with 31 points.

Following his compatriot, Floris Schraffordt NED also broke into the top five for the first time in the event and now sits in fourth place overall with 32 points.

Reigning U17 European champion Alessandro Cirinei ITA rounds out the top five with 35 units.

Following Alexander Hartsink NED in the Under 17 championship is Jiri Tomes CZE, who sits 30 points behind in 16th place overall. Levian Büscher GER is third in the U17 standings with 72 units.

10:00 – Coach meeting at Vilamoura Sailing terrace.
10:30 – Bib Ceremony – Boys (next to the Flag Pole).
10:45 – Bib Ceremony – Girls (next to the Flag Pole).
12:00 – First possible start race nº9 order as in the SI’s 12.3.
Pasta Party after racing at the food court.
