Race day 5 – 2024 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships

The Final series racing finally commenced on the fifth day of competition at the 2024 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy in Bangor, Northern Ireland, organized by Ballyholme Yacht Club.

Today’s sailing conditions were ideal, with medium to strong winds averaging 9-15 knots and 20 in the gusts throughout the afternoon.

Racing began as scheduled at 11:00 AM, and the Race Committee successfully conducted three new races for all six fleets.

This marked the first day without light wind conditions, leading to significant changes in race winners and standings, as follows;


Race day 5 results – Girls

The reigning Youth Sailing World champion Maria Vitoria Arseni ITA jumped to the lead today after scoring a 1-2-6, and heads the girls’ overall championship with 49 points. Alina Shapovalova UKR is in second place, just one point behind. Overnight leader Gilda Dondona FRA is now in third place with 56 units.

In fourth place overall is the new Under 17 leader Sienna Wright IRL with 62 points.

Hermione Ghicas GRE and Gaya Datiashvili ISR complete the U17 provisional podium in 6th and 8th place overall, with 77 and 81 points, respectively.

Race day 5 results – Boys

Healy Ryan AUS from Australia continues to lead both the Boys’ overall and Under 17 Open European Trophies with 21 points.

Second place overall now belongs to the European’s Overall and Under 17 leader Alessandro Cirinei ITA with 43 points. Overnight leader Dario Burlando ITA, also from Italy, is now second in the European standings, just one point behind. Third European place for Antonio Pascali ITA holds the thrid place, two points behind the leader.

Jan Rohde POL and Federico Cittadini ITA complete the Under 17 European podium in 14th and 24th place overall, with 86 and 107 points respectively.
