The 2024 ILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy will kick off on Friday 16th February at Nautical Club Kalamaki in Athens, Greece, where the Olympic flame was born.
The event will be one of major events before the Olympics, delivering four new spots (two in ILCA 6 and two in ILCA 7) for European countries yet to qualify for Paris.
This year, the competition will see participation from 142 ILCA 7, 107 ILCA 6 Women, and 71 ILCA 6 Men, totaling 320 participants.
ILCA 7 Championship Preview
Renowned ILCA 7 representatives from the previous Olympic Games have confirmed their participation, including Tonci Stipanovic CRO (Silver medalist in Tokyo and 5x European champion), Pavlos Kontides CYP (4th at the 2020 Olympics and 2x European champion), Karl-Martin Rammo EST (15th in Tokyo), Milivoj Dukic MNE (17th), Benjamin Vadnai HUN (18th), Ryan Lo SGP (21st) and Zan Luka Zelko SLO (26th).
Additionally, seasoned sailors such as Filip Jurisic CRO (Silver medalist at the 2023 and 2021 Senior Europeans), Jonatan Vadnai HUN (Bronze in the 2021 Europeans), Lorenzo Chiavarini ITA (Gold at the 2019 and Bronze at the 2020 Europeans), or Finn Lynch IRL (9th in recent 2024 Worlds in Australia) are expected to vie fiercely for a place on the podium.
ILCA 6 Women’s Championship Preview
The ILCA 6 Women’s championship will also count with many of top sailors in the circuit, including the recent 2024 World champion and reigning Olympic champion Anne-Marie Rindom DEN (1x Gold medal at the Europeans), the 2023 World champion Maria Erdi HUN (Bronze medalist in last Europeans in Andora), and the twice Senior European champion Agata Barwinska POL, who clinched the title in 2021 and 2022.
Furthermore, several of the latest World and European Youth medalists will also be competing in Athens, eager to make their mark among the Seniors. This talented group includes Eve McMahon IRL, Chiara Benini ITA, Emma Mattivi ITA, Maria Vitoria Arseni ITA, Giorgia Della Valle ITA, Shai Kakon ISR, Marilena Makri CYP, Petra Marendic CRO or Ana Moncada ESP.

Paris 2024 – ILCA 6 European Qualification Preview
BEL, DEN, ESP, FIN, FRA, GBR, GER, HUN, IRL, ITA, NED, NOR, POL, POR*, SUI, SWE and TUR.
Fourteen European nations are yet to qualify for the Olympics, and their sailors will be competing in Athens for the two available tickets. These nations include:
BUL (1 sailor), CRO (6 sailors), CYP (2 sailors), CZE (3 sailors), EST (3 sailors), GRE (14 sailors), ISR (4 sailors), LAT (1 sailor), LTU (1 sailor), MLT (1 sailor), ROU (1 sailor), SRB (1 sailor), SLO (2 sailors) and UKR (3 sailors).
Paris 2024 – ILCA 7 European Qualification Preview
In ILCA 7, there are 18 European nations already qualified for the Olympics. Those are:
BEL, CRO, CYP, DEN, ESP, FIN, FRA, GBR, GER, HUN, IRL, ITA, MNE, NED, NOR, POR, SWE and TUR.
On the other hand, there are 14 European nations sending representatives to Athens with the goal of securing one of the final tickets to Paris. These countries include:
AUT (4 sailors), BUL (1), CZE (1), EST (2), GRE (19), ISR (4), LTU (3), MLT (1), MON (1), POL (3), SRB (1), SLO (3), SUI (4) and UKR (3).

How to follow the 2024 ILCA Senior Europeans
The 2024 ILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy s will start on Friday 16th, with two days allocated for registration and measurement, followed by a Welcome Ceremony and Buffet meal on Saturday 17th.
Racing is scheduled to commence on Sunday 18th, with the first warning signal at 11:00. Two races are planned per day until Thursday 22nd. The event will draw to a close on Friday 23rd, featuring the Last Race and the Medal Race, followed by the Prize giving and Closing ceremony.
