2020 Laser 4.7 Youth Europeans – Race day 6 – Final results

One last race was held today to crown our new 2020 Laser 4.7 Youth European Champions in Vilamoura, Portugal.

The day started with a dense fog that slowly dissipated through the morning, allowing a final race to be contested at 14:30 with around 8 knots from WSW.

We mentioned it yesterday on our last report: watch out the Greek sailor Anastasios Gkaripis GRE and his terrific consistency along the whole championship. He jumped to podium yesterday for the first time on third place but with a 12 discard and only 4 points behind the leader. Today Anastasios scored a 4th to wrap up his great performance and crowned new 2020 Laser 4.7 Youth European champion with 71 points. Congrats!!!

Polish Przemyslaw Machowski POL also showed a very nice consistency along the event and crowned Vice champion with 76. Bronze overall for our new U16 European champion Domenico Lamante ITA with 85. Congrats boys!!!

Second and third U16 places for Hidde Schraffordt NED and Massimiliano Antoniazzi ITA, finally 4th and 7th overall.

Bad last race for overnight leader Marcos Altarriba ESP, finally finishing 8th.

Martins Atilla LAT on 5th, Jason Kefallonitis GRE on 6th, David Ponseti ESP on 9th and Antonio Lopez Martinez ESP on 10th completed the Top 10 rank.

João Pontes POR was finally the best ranked Portuguese sailor on the 11th position.

Final results – Girls – 2020 Laser 4.7 Youth Europeans

With a 19 points gap over the second, Swiss sailor Anja Von Allmen SUI just had to do it right today on the single race contested. And she did it! Our reigning 2019 Laser Europa Cup champion scored a 7th place today, concluding the event with 44 points and adding a new title to her promising sailing career: the 2020 Laser 4.7 Youth Girl’s championship. Congrats Anja!!!

Overnight 2nd and 3rd switched places today and finally the Silver medal was for the Italian sailor Carlotta Rizzardi ITA with 72 points and Bronze for Polish Lily May Niezabitowska POL with 76. Congrats girls!!!

Croatian Petra Marendic CRO dominated the U16 championship from the beginning and crowned new U16 Girl’s champion, finally finishing 6th overall. Congrats Petra!!!

2nd and 3rd U16 places for Viktoria Jedlinska SUI and Annemjin Algra NED, finally ranked 10th and 21st overall.

Leonor Dutra POR was the best Portuguese sailor on 4th place overall with 86 units.

2019 Laser 4.7 Youth champion Alessia Palanti CZE couldn’t recover her best shape showed on the beginning and finally finished 5th after heading the fleet during the first 4 days.

Beatrice Ini ITA, Diana Markova BUL and Maria Martinez ESP completed the Top 10 on 7th to 9th places respectively.

This way we close this lovely competition with great weather and sailing conditions during the whole week. We want to thank Vilamoura Sailing and all the staff and volunteers that helped organising this wonderful championships. We’re very happy we could make it possible even after all this hard months with the known lockdown issues. Thanks Vilamoura for caring of us meeting all the health regulations, and thanks for caring of our planet development a sustainable event, free of single-use plastics. We aim this will become our new sustainability standards for all upcoming events.

The 2021 Laser 4.7 Youth European championships will be in Travemunde, Germany, from July 23-31 2020 so hope to see you there! #SailandSmile #KeepSmilingKeepSailing
