Wonderful wind conditions today to close the 2021 EurILCA Radial Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy in a great way in Kastela, Croatia.
Following yesterday’s sequence, the wind only arrived in the afternoon but strongly enough to raise from 10 to 20 knots on the final pack of races.
There were finally 9 races for Boy’s Gold fleet, 8 races for Silver and 7 for Bronze. The Italian sailor Mattia Cesana ITA was finally the overall champion, winning 6 of the 9 races and wrapping the event with 19 points. Javier Segui ESP and Yoav Kfir ISR completed the overall podium.
Mattia was also the 2021 Radial Youth Under 17 European champion! David Ponseti ESP and Tomer Katz ISR were Silver and Bronze behind him.
The girl’s competition concluded with 8 races in total. The pole position was contested alternately from the beginning by Eve McMahon IRL and Alessia Palanti CZE, with the latter finally taking the lead with 14 points. Eve was finally second with 20. A broken mast on the first day conditioned the Irish sailor’s chances, otherwise she could probably have gotten the gold. The third place overall was for Alexandra Lukoyanova RUS with 17.
In the girl’s Under 17 championship, the triumph was for Croatian Tea Peteh CRO, escorted on the European podium by Marga Perello ESP and Neele Luisa Nagel GER. Brazilian sailor Julia Carreirao BRA was third U17 in the Open European Trophy.
