The European Sailing Cup starts today in Primorsko

Primorsko welcomes 45 boats from 8 countries in the Olympic classes ILCA 6 and 7, as well as the youth class ILCA 4.

Today, Primorsko hosts one of the most exciting events in the world of sailing—the European Sailing Cup in the Olympic classes ILCA 6 and 7, as well as in the youth class ILCA 4. From May 23 to 25, the municipality of Primorsko is the host and co-organizer of the event, which has gathered 45 participants from Bulgaria, Norway, Kuwait, Armenia, Romania, Ukraine, and Moldova.

Bulgaria is represented by several participants, including Alexandra Lukoyanova and Viktor Stanoev, who have placed the country among the top positions in world sailing over the last few years.

“Today’s event puts Primorsko on the map of world sailing sports. The first races in the three classes showed serious preparation from the participants and an outstanding performance by the Bulgarians. We expect to see first places. This event is of great importance for promoting our region and tourism on a global scale. However, to achieve even more significant successes, the construction of modern port infrastructure is necessary. We are actively working in this direction and hope to realize this long-awaited infrastructure project soon. Through it, we will add value and make a significant contribution to the development of not just our municipality, but also Bulgarian Black Sea tourism,” shared Mr. Ivan Gaykov, the mayor of Primorsko municipality.

The chairman of the Bulgarian Sailing Federation, Mr. Rosen Marangozov, added: “Hosting the European Sailing Cup represents a unique opportunity for Bulgaria. We are glad to organize such an important event here in Primorsko, and we are confident that our participants will win the cup. Sailing is not a mass sport, but it has a significant number of supporters in our country, especially among the youth,” he further noted.

The event is part of the calendar of the World Sailing Federation and the European ILCA Association (EurILCA). The host is the Municipal Sea Club “Primorsko,” and the organizer is the Municipality of Primorsko, together with the Bulgarian Sailing Federation, supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
