2017 Laser Radial Women’s World Championship – Final results
Olympic Gold medalist Marit Bouwmeester NED (29-27-3-6-1-2-1-1-5-3) started event in bad shape, scoring 29-27 on first day of competition.
Immediately recovered on 2nd day, she started showing her best sailing during the next days and adding just 22 points in those 8 races.
Building a great comeback and helped by discards applied on scores, she could finally left those first results behind and surpass Evi Van Acker BEL (4-3-3-9-2-15-3-3-4-15) in top of competition.
This way Marit concluded championship with 22 points, 9 ahead Evi. “Thank you all for all the lovely posts!! Super happy to win my 3th world title in the Netherlands and with my brother as coach”, wrote World champion in her Facebook page.
Third place on podium was for Japanese sailor Manami Doi JPN with 40 points.
Fourth place overall for French sailor Mathilde De Kerangat FRA (4-9-17-13-6-7-10-4-14-7), showing a great consistency among whole world championship, concluding event with 60 points.
“This week we had rather light conditions: the wind was rather weak and oscillating, so we had to apply technically well and then focus on the tactical project. Everything went well for me. I had a very regular week, with no big mistakes, which meant that I finished 4th overall. I fulfilled my goal which was the Top 5, so I am delighted. This result is due to the work done with my coach, François Husson, who was very demanding with me all week, but also thanks to my training group, with whom I sailed all the year and who Was also present this week at Medemblick: Marie Bolou, Louise Cervera and Pernelle Michon. I would also like to congratulate Marie Barrué, who made a fine performance by finishing in 13th place”, declared Mathilde after event.
Maxime Jonker NED, Daphne Van Der Vaart NED, Viktorija Andrulyte LTU, Pauline Liebig GER and Agata Barwinska POL also ended world championship among Top 10, holding places 6th to 10th respectively.
