Finally the races started at the 2018 Laser Senior European championships in La Rochelle, France.
10-14 knots from West allowed all fleets to complete their two scheduled races. Many general recalls here and there proven sailor’s are eagerly aiming to rock from the very beginning.
It was a wonderful and sunny day for sailing. People from all around the World could follow the races live through the GPS tracking.
2018 Laser Senior Europeans – Day 1 results
Sam Meech NZL (1-1) started the Laser Standard championship with perfect score, closely followed by Matthew Wearn AUS (2-1). Pavlos Kontides CYP (3-1) is third overall and leading the European championship, draw in points with Andrew McKenzie NZL (2-2).
Michael Beckett GBR (1-5), Philipp Buhl GER (4-3) and Jesper Stalheim SWE (4-3) are also close with 6 and 7 points respectively.
Defending champion Nick Thompson GBR (7-9) started on 20th place with 16 units.
Maxime Jonker NED (1-1) also started the Radial Women’s championship with a perfect score, followed by Marie Barrue FRA (2-2) and Tuula Tenkanen FIN (3-4) on provisional podium.
Defending champion Marit Bouwmeester NED (3-9) is ranked 6th after this first two races.
The Laser Radial Men’s championships is headed by Nik Pletikos SLO (4-3) with 7 points, followed by Federico Tocchi ITA (3-9) on second. Third place overall for Yvan Beaufils FRA (9-4), draw in points with defending champion Marcin Rudawski POL (6-7) on fourth.
Most of best sailors all around the world such as current Olympic gold medalist Tom Burton AUS or returning Paige Railey USA are also here to share a fantastic sailing week on their way to Tokyo 2020.
