Women’s results – 2023 ILCA 6 Youth Sailing Worlds

Dutch sailor Roos Wind NED emerged victorious in the ILCA 6 Women’s fleet with 32 points. Despite a strong challenge from the reigning World and European champion Emma Mattivi ITA, who secured the second spot with 36 points, Roos displayed resilience after a tough start. She rebounded from a BFD in the first race to control the subsequent races, winning five out of the eight.

This marks Roos’s first Gold medal in main championships, following her Bronze in the 2022 Youth Sailing Worlds, held in Scheveningen, and Bronze in the recent 2023 ILCA 6 Youth Worlds in Dziwnow. She also secured Silver in the 2023 ILCA 6 Youth Europeans in Gdynia.

“Today I had a very good day on the water with two race wins and a really fun day here in Brazil, racing again all the best people of the world and Buzios is a really amazing place for sail events like this”, declared Roos after the penultimate day of competition. Same performance she repeated in the last day by also winning both races.

Bronze medal was for Irish sailor Sienna Wright IRL, only 1 point behind Emma. Sienna have also showed a great performance this year, being Silver medalist in both 2023 World and European ILCA 6 Under 17 championships.

Petra Marendic CRO and Adriana Castro Nuñez ESP completed the World Top 5.
