Racing starts at the 2025 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships

Racing kicked off today at the 2025 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy in Vilamoura, Portugal, with the first two races scheduled for all four fleets.

The sailors were greeted with a westerly wind of 12-15 knots, providing ideal conditions for the opening races. Later in the day, the wind shifted 15 degrees to the south, increasing to 18-20 knots for the final races.

The sea state was moderate, with waves reaching up to 1.0 meters, and the sun shone brightly throughout the day, providing ideal conditions for exciting racing.


Girls’ results

Reigning ILCA 6 Youth Under 17 European Champion Hermione Ghicas GRE made a strong start, winning both races in the green group today. She leads the overall girls’ championship with 2 points, closely followed by three sailors tied with 5 points: Ainhoa Gomez Barnuevo ESP, Sienna Wright IRL and Gaya Datiashvili ISR. Defending champion Alina Shapovalova UKR is currently ranked 10th with 15 points.

The Under 17 championship is led by reigning ILCA 4 Youth European Champion Gabriela Morell ESP, who is in 21st place overall, followed by Amber Knape NED and Beáta Dokoupilová CZE.

Boys’ results

Tim Lubat ESP took an early lead in the overall qualification with two wins today in the yellow group. He is closely followed by Cédric D’Hondt BEL, who is just one point behind, while Georgios Mantis GRE completes the provisional podium, two points off the leader.

The Under 17 championship is led by Gal Einav ISR, who is currently in 7th place overall, followed by Alexander Hartsink NED and Nikolas Komianos GRE. Alessandro Cirinei ITA, last year’s ILCA 6 Youth European Champion in the U17 category, is currently in 8th place overall with 8 points.

The event is organised by Vilamoura Sailing in partnership with EurILCA, bringing together 360 sailors and 87 coaches from 43 countries.
