The second day of competition at the 2022 EurILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy concluded today in Thessaloniki, Greece, with two new races per fleet, being four now in total.
The day started at 13:00 with the coaches meeting, followed by the boats launching at 14:00.
The first races started around 15:00 in both courses as per scheduled, with 10-12 knots of wind and a small swell. The wind slowly decreased during the competition to 6-8 knots. There was a little bit more pressure on course A (Girls Yellow and Blue groups – Boys White group) than B (Boys Yellow, Blue and Red groups). All sailors returned to shore around 18:00.
Race day 2 results – Girls
The overnight leader Roos Wind NED (1-1-4-3) is still on top of Girl’s competition with 5 points, followed now by Eve McMahon IRL (13-2-2-4) and Emma Mattivi ITA (3-16-1-6) with 8 and 10 points respectively. Only 1 point behind them is Okyanus Arikan TUR with 11. Overnight vice-leader Claudia Adan Lledo ESP dropped to fifth with 14.
The Girl’s Under 17 championship is still governed by Adriana Castro Nuñez ESP, ranked 9th overall with 16 points. Maria Vittoria Arseni ITA and Line-Annellek Pahler GER complete the provisional U17 podium on places 25th and 33rd respectively.
106 sailors participate of the girl’s championships, divided in 2 fleets.
Race day 2 results – Boys
One of the overnight top sailors, Rem Pulci Magen ISR (1-1-1-8), is solely leading now both the overall and Under 17 boy’s championships with 3 points, followed just one point behind by the vice-overall and vice-U17 sailor Alexandros Eleftheriadis GRE (1-1-2-2) with 4. The third place overall is for Ole Schweckendiek GER (2-2-1-2) with 5. Jacek Kalinowski POL completes the U17 boy’s provisional podium on 6th place overall.
284 sailors are being part of the boy’s championships, sailing in 4 different groups.
390 youth sailors from 34 nations of all around the World are being part of this competition, organised by Nautical Club of Thessaloniki, Hellenic ILCA Class Association EurILCA, City of Kalamaria and Region of Central Macedonia. The event is kindly sponsored by EPT 3, Superfast Ferries, Grohe, Yamaha, Live Media, Interlife and Coral.
Racing will goes from July 1st to 6th, with 2 scheduled races per day. The first warning signal tomorrow will be at 13:30, with the coaches meeting at 11:30.
