Meet the 2024 ILCA Under 21 World champions in Portugal!

The 2024 ILCA Under 21 World Championships concluded yesterday in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, after six days of competition with all 12 scheduled races completed.


ILCA 6 results

Irish sailor Eve McMahon IRL retained the crown she won last year in Morocco, securing her second consecutive ILCA Under 21 world title in ILCA 6. In 2022, she was the World and European champion in ILCA 6 Youth, as well as the Youth Sailing World champion in The Hague. Earlier this year, she also qualified her country for the Olympics taking place at the end of the month in Paris.

It’s amazing, this is my last year in the Under 21 so, to finish like this is amazing. It’s my fifth world championship title in the youth fleet, which is, which I’m very proud to say. I can’t believe it – said Eve McMahon IRL

The Silver medal went to Australian Evie Saunders AUS, who finished 30 points behind the winner. The Bronze medal was awarded to Roos Wind NED from the Netherlands, the 2023 Youth Sailor World champion.

Four Italian sailors occupied the fourth to seventh places: Ginevra Caracciolo ITA, Maria Vittoria Arseni ITA, Carlotta Rizzardi ITA and Emma Mattivi ITA, in that order.

Pia Conradi GER, Adriana Castro Nuñez ESP and Katariina Roihu EST completed the Top 10.

ILCA 7 results

After many close calls, Norwegian sailor Theodor Middelthon NOR finally won a gold medal and was crowned the 2024 ILCA Under 21 World champion in ILCA 7.

It feels really good. I’ve been with the yellow jersey on the last day a few times. But before now I’ve been close to a medal now for few years and every time it slipped but finally it’s mine, and it feels great – said Theodor Middelthon NOR.

The remaining podium spots went to Italian sailors Anatol Sassi ITA and Mattia Cesana ITA (Youth Sailing World champion and ILCA 6 Youth World champion in 2023).

Fourth place overall was also claimed by an Italian, Enrico Tanferna ITA, the reigning ILCA Under 21 European champion.

Javier Segui ESP, Ole Schweckendiek GER, Rem Pulci Magen ISR, Isaac Schotte AUS, Kai Wolgram GBR and Arthur Farley GBR completed the ILCA 7 overall Top 10.

In Men’s U19 category, the winner was Rem Pulci Magen ISR from Israel, followed by Greek Alexandros Ioannidis GRE and Omer Vered Vilenchik ISR.
