Day 5 – No Racing Possible in Kaštela Ahead of Final Day

The fifth day of the 2026 ILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy in Kaštela ended without racing after unstable weather conditions forced the Race Committee to abandon the day’s schedule for all fleets.

Sailors remained ashore for three and a half hours during a lengthy postponement while organizers monitored the changing wind conditions across the racing areas. At around 14:00, the Race Committee decided to send the ILCA 7 fleet to the course, followed shortly after by the ILCA 6 Women and ILCA 6 Men fleets.

The plan was to conduct the races inside Kaštela Bay, closer to the Marina, in an attempt to take advantage of the more sheltered conditions and shorter distance from shore.

However, once the fleets reached the race area, the wind became increasingly unstable, with large shifts and patchy pressure making fair racing impossible. At the same time, a storm system began forming behind the surrounding mountains, creating additional safety concerns for competitors and race officials.

With conditions continuing to deteriorate, the Race Committee made the decision to send all fleets safely back to shore, resulting in no races being completed on Day 5.

The championship will now be decided on the final day of competition in Kaštela. The plan for tomorrow is to run three races, with the first warning signal scheduled for 12:00.
