And she made it! After conquering the 2019 European championship for the first time this year, Danish sailor Anne Marie Rindom DEN could also get the World title for her second time in Sakaiminato, Japan. Congrats Marie!

2019 Laser Radial Women’s World Championships – Final results

50 points on 11 races to crown Anne-Marie as new Radial Women’s World champion for the second time in her career (first one was 2015 in Oman), just one year before the Olympics in Tokyo.

Silver medal for reigning Olympic champion Marit Bouwmeester NED with 86. Bronze medal was finally for overcoming Alison Young GBR with 89.

Undoubtedly one more great World championship for our European sailors, conquering 9 of 10 top places, with Emma Plasschaert BEL on 4th, Marie Barrue FRA on 5th, Josefin Olsson SWE on 6th, Hannah Snellgrove GBR on 7th, Tuula Tenkanen FIN on 8th and  Ecem Guzel TUR on 10th.

With this championship closure, 10 new Olympic spots for Tokyo 2020 were gain by the following countries:

  • Croatia (Elena Vorobeva 20th)
  • Lithuania (Viktorija Andrulyte 28th)
  • Argentina (Lucia Falasca 32nd)
  • Belarus (Tatiana Drozdovskaya 40th)
  • Australia (Zoe Thomson 41st)
  • Uruguay (Dolores Moreira 44th)
  • Russia (Ekaterina Zyuzina 45th)
  • Ireland (Aisling Keller 46th)
  • New Zealand (Olivia Christie 47th)
  • Cyprus (Marilena Makri 50th)

Many European countries were already qualified for Tokyo 2020, when they got a spot on previous World championship in Aarhus, Denmark.

2019 Laser Radial Men’s World Championships – Final results

Simon De Gendt BEL is the new 2019 Laser Radial Men’s champion! After 12 races and winning 7 of them, the Belgian sailor crowned World champion with 20 points in Sakaiminato, Japan, escorted on podium by Australian Zac West AUS and Brazilian Guilherme Perez BRA with 26 and 49 units.

Other European sailors participating of this event were Erwan Lamoureux SUI and Jan Heuninck BEL finishing 4th and 6th respectively.

Ryotaro Suzuki JPN was first among the Japanese fleet, finishing 7th overall.
