The presentation took place in the L’Escala Town Hall Assembly Hall at 10:30 am and kicked off the final weeks of preparations for a competition that will welcome around 263 sailors in L’Escala.

The presentation counted with the interventions of Marta Rodeja, first deputy mayor and councilor for economic, tourist and trade promotion of the City Council of L’Escala; Narcís Carreras, president of the Club Nàutic l’Escala; Jordi Masquef, Sports Deputy of the Girona Provincial Council and Second Vice President of the Girona – Costa Brava Tourist Board and Josep Bofill, Mayor of L’Escala.

The sports director of the Club, Xavi López, has been in charge of giving the details of the 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships, an event that will bring together a record number of ILCA Master class sailors in L’Escala. Up to 263 sailors over 30 years will be competing for the European Championship of this individual dinghy sailing modality.

The fleet will have representatives from 26 European countries, but also from other parts of the world such as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Morocco, the United States and Canada. Among them, up to 11 participants over 75 years old and 21 women, which confirms that the sport of sailing does not understand age or gender.

All of them will sail distributed in two regatta areas located in front of the L’Escala and Empúries, which will allow the spectacle to be enjoyed from the town’s seacoast. To welcome them with all the guarantees, both in its sports and social program, the European ILCA Master organization will consist of more than 60 people.

The Club Nàutic l’Escala organizes the 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships after being selected by EurILCA (ILCA European Region) last April.

The regatta has the collaboration of the General Secretariat for Sport and Physical Activity of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Girona Provincial Council, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the City Council of L’Escala, as well as Ports of the Generalitat, the Catalan Sailing Federation and the Spanish Association of the ILCA Class.

It also receives logistical support from Camping La Ballena Alegre, the La Ballena Alegre Sailing Club and the Nautivela nautical service company.
