The regattas valid for the Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets of the 2023 EurILCA Europa Cup ITA have begun in Riva del Garda, an event organized by Fraglia Vela Riva, in collaboration with EurILCA, which relies on the presence of more than 700 athletes and representing over 48 nations.

Today turned out to be the most complicated from a weather point of view, given that the expected arrival of a perturbation in the late afternoon hours affected the direction and intensity of the Ora wind, which proved to be unusual.

Conditions that did not prevent the Regatta Committee, chaired by PRO Carmelo Paroli, head of field A, and Gabriella Gabrielli, head of field B, from keeping up with the program and sending the fleets back with a total of six races valid: “Today we had the umpteenth demonstration that, on Lake Garda, unlike what we usually think, there are no obligatory edges: the Ora made us struggle more than expected to position the pitch, but foresight and team work made it possible and the day ended with the full execution of the program – commented Carmelo Paroli – The preparatory work carried out yesterday evening was decisive when, after hearing the opinion of all the FVR insiders, we opted to move the fleets, in order to make the activity on the two fields more balanced: it was essential for me to have the two Olympic classes, the ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 Female, be protagonists of the first two starts and be busy between the marks at the same time”.

Among ILCA 4s, Alessandro Cortese is confirmed on charge: leader right from the start, representing Club Velico Crotone, keeps his opponent Alina Shapovalova at a distance. The Ukrainian sailor, former Under 16 world champion in this class, is three points behind the pacesetter and keeps the Turkish Ateay Varol behind her by two points, followed closely by Ludovico Scamporlino of the Circolo Vela Torbole.

Among the ILCA 6s women’s division, it is always Alessia Palanti, who has been in command since the first day, pointing the way: thanks to her thirteen points, the Czech sailor has so far managed to hold back the attacks of her opponents, led by the pair formed by Carlotta Rizzardi of Circolo Vela Torbole and Emma Mattivi of Fraglia Vela Riva, who found themselves both with sixteen points. However, in the ILCA 6s men’s field, the tie with Mattia Cesana seems to be resolved in favor of Antonio Pascali, winner of today’s two races: the two athletes of Fraglia Vela Riva, paired in command until yesterday, are now separated by six points with the second whose divided by just one point from the Sweden Erik Norlen.

Among the ILCA 7s, the situation is slowly defining itself: the Peruvian Stefano Peschiera, even though he passed in both races with a small gap from his direct opponent Alexander Finn, he increased his margin in the overall ranking and, on the eve of the final day, he must defend his six points distance from the opponent. In third place, rather detached from the leading pair, goes Attilio Borio, able to overtake Alessio Spadoni of Società Triestina della Vela, currently in fourth position.

The 2023 EurILCA Europa Cup ITA will end tomorrow with the last races: the Regatta Committee has set the beginning of the regatta at 11.30. After end the regattas, the last appointment of the event will be the award ceremony scheduled at the Spiaggia degli Ulivi.
