On the weekend of May 31st to June 2nd, the Italian stage of the EurILCA Master Series 2024 took place in Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca (VA).
The Organizing Committee was led by the Unione Velica Maccagno (UVM), a sailing club that has been organizing international regattas for many years in the windiest area of Lake Maggiore, called “Canalone”, characterized by the regular presence of a thermal wind from the north in the morning (Tramontana) and from the south in the afternoon (Inverna).
The geographical position of Maccagno, located a few kilometers from the Swiss border and 60 km from Malpensa Airport, facilitated the participation of 83 athletes representing 9 countries, including distant Moldova and Finland.
The competition started on schedule at 12:30 PM on Friday, with the first race featuring a good wind from the south, where Alessio Marinelli (ILCA 6) and Francesco Bottoni (ILCA 7) immediately stood out. Some wind shifts slightly delayed the start of the second race, which was then shortened by the Race Committee.
The second day was finally marked by excellent sunshine that warmed the athletes from early morning, during which 2 races were held with a good north wind. After a short break on land, the athletes were called back to the water to compete in the third and final race of the day, this time with wind from the south.
The third and final day was characterized by a fresh north wind that held until about 1:00 PM, allowing the Race Committee to conduct 3 beautiful regular races, only the last race of the ILCA 6 fleet was shortened at the penultimate mark.
Following this, the awards ceremony was held at the Unione Velica Maccagno headquarters, led by vice-presidents Maurizio and Roberto Pocaterra, with the participation of Davide Ponti, the President of the XV FIV Zone.

Overall, the event proceeded smoothly and Maccagno proved to be a valid race course for hosting a championship, completing all 8 scheduled races. The athletes also greatly appreciated the location and the pasta parties.
The Organizing Committee (UVM) sincerely thanks all the athletes who participated and looks forward to seeing them again on our racecourse.
