Race day 3 report – 2024 ILCA Under 21 Europeans

The third day of competition of the 2024 ILCA Under 21 European Championships & Open European Trophy concluded today after a long day on water and two new races added to scores.

Hosted by Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença in Majorca, Spain, the event has drawn 202 sailors from 36 nations, including 28 from Europe.

As with previous days, proceedings began with a shore postponement. However, once on the water, all three fleets successfully commenced and completed their initial races of the day before the wind subsided. Despite the need to significantly shorten the course for the ILCA 7 blue fleet, the races were completed.

Following a period of waiting on the water, the breeze returned to the course, allowing each fleet to compete in one more race.

With three days of competition and five races completed per fleet, the championship has reached now its halfway point. From tomorrow on, the ILCA 7 fleet will be split into Gold and Silver fleets, while the ILCA 6 remains a single fleet with no changes. The provisional leaders are as follows:


ILCA 6 Championship

Reigning ILCA 6 Women’s Under 21 World champion Eve McMahon IRL (13-6) continues on top of girl’s competition, despite now closely followed two points behind by Lilly May Niezabitowska POL (9-1). Local sailor Marga Perello ESP (18-10) holds the third position with 25 units.

ILCA 7 Championship

German sailor Ole Schweckendiek GER (8-1) managed to secure the ILCA 7 leadership today, heading now the fleet with 15 points.

The second place is now for ascendant Lorenzo Mayer FRA (1-9) with 27. Norwegian Theodor Middelthon NOR (15-3) is third, just one point behind second.

Rem Pulci Magen ISR (15-14) managed to recover the Under 19 leadership today, ranked now fifth overall with 35 points. Overnight U19 leader Luka Zabukovec SLO (18-11) is now second, just 2 points behind the leader. Third U19 place for Filip Jarosiewicz POL with 51 units.
