Race day 5 results – 2023 ILCA 4 Youth European Championships

Great sailing conditions we had today in Cádiz for the fifth day of racing of the 2023 ILCA 4 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy.

Races started at 12:00 as per scheduled with the first start for the Gold fleets in both courses. The wind was around 10 knots during the afternoon, increasing a little bit in the end for the last races. These great conditions allowed the Race Committee to run 3 new races per fleet.

Boys count now with 10 races on scores, while girls count with 9.

With only one day to go, the following are the provisional results in the Gold fleets;


Girl´s results – 2023 ILCA 4 Youth Europeans

Hermionie Ghicas GRE is leading now both the Under 16 and overall championship with 38 points after scoring 1-50-1 today. She took a 54-point lead over the second sailor today, who is now Maria Eleni Kalakona GRE, also from Greece. Third place overall and second U16 is for Hanna Rogowska POL, three points behind.

Gilda Dondona FRA and Alina Shapovalova UKR complete the Top 5 overall.

Third U16 place is for Gaya Datiashvili ISR in 14th place of the general ranking.

Boy´s results – 2023 ILCA 4 Youth Europeans

Italian sailors are dominating the action in Boy´s fleet, holding now the first 4 spots.

Nicolo Cassita ITA (1-3-24) dropped some points today in the last race but continues to control the fleet with 15 points.

He´s closely followed by his partner at Yacht Club Olbia, Salvatore Falchi ITA, with 21 (5-1-2).

Third place overall is now for Alessandro Cortese ITA with 64.

Fourth place overall and Under 16 leadership for Lorenzo Ghirotti ITA with 76.

Kutsal Kurnaz TUR (6th overall) and Tim Lubat ESP (8th overall) complete the U16 provisional podium.

Last races will come tomorrow to decide our new 2023 ILCA 4 Youth European champions! Three races are scheduled for the girls and two for the boys, with the first warning signal at 12:00. Coaches meeting at 10:00.

390 young sailors from 39 nations are being part of this competition, organised by Ayuntamiento de Cádiz, Instituto Municipal del Deporte de Cádiz, Real Federación Española de Vela and EurILCA.
