Dear sailors, as we announced 4 days ago –New venue and dates for the 2020 Laser Senior Europeans– and due to the virus outbreak, we had to move not only the dates but the venue also for the next 2020 Laser Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy, originally planned to be in Kalamata, Greece, from May 16-23. This event would be originally organised by the Kalamata Nautical Club Poseidon.
Kalamata is a very nice coastal city which most of the economy based on tourism. Now all hotels are closed and it is not clear or sure when the tourist season will start this year. We asked the club to move the dates of the event to October, but due to the stop of the tourist economy in Kalamata, the Kalamata Nautical Club Poseidon could not get the support financially in October as it had for the event in May.
This is why with great regret the club informed us they needed to withdraw. We accepted then the offer of another club, the Nautical Club of Kalamaki (NOK) in Athens to hold the event in October.
EurILCA’s board is really sad about this unexpected situation, but trusting we will be able to come again to organise a great event in Kalamata in the future. We want to thank all the team of Kalamata Nautical Club Poseidon, the volunteers, the city of Kalamata, the sponsors, and every of people committed to help organising this event in their beautiful town. We want to specially thanks also the President of the Kalamata Nautical Club Poseidon, Mr. Dimitris Kakalikas, for the efforts and energy they all put to prepare this event.
The 2020 Laser Senior European Championships & Laser Senior Open European Trophy will be organised now by the Nautical Club of Kalamaki in Athens, venue of our last 2019 Laser Radial Youth Europeans, from October 9th to 16th of 2020.
2020 Laser Senior Europeans – Important information
The 2020 Laser Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy are restricted entry allocated championships for the European sailors on Laser Standard and Laser Radial Women’s competitions. The Laser Radial Men’s championships are Open for all European and non European sailors instead. Sailors wishing to enter this events must first complete an application form here.
