Planning for the 2025 Suzuki ILCA Master European Championships is well underway, with a strong commitment to making it the most sustainable sailing regatta in the UK this year. The event has been officially registered as a Clean Regatta, achieving prestigious Gold Accreditation for its extensive environmental initiatives. This effort is fully supported by and aligned with the EurILCA Sustainability Programme, ensuring that sustainability remains at the heart of the event.

A key focus of the regatta is the reduction of plastic waste. Shoreside, all catering operations have been carefully designed to minimise environmental impact. Hayling Island Sailing Club (HISC) has already earned Silver Accreditation from the Final Straw Foundation, recognizing its continuous efforts to reduce single-use plastics across its operations.

On the water, HISC’s fleet of Suzuki-powered safety boats will play an active role in sustainability efforts. Each engine is equipped with a microplastic filtration device, ensuring that plastic pollution is reduced as the boats patrol the racecourse.

To further protect the environment, HISC volunteers will conduct daily beach cleans, with larger group clean-up efforts also scheduled throughout the event. Competitors will be provided with guidance to prevent cross-contamination from water sources and toxins, ensuring responsible environmental practices throughout the regatta.

Additionally, all participants will receive instructions on preserving the stunning natural beauty of Chichester Harbour’s National Landscape. By working together, sailors, volunteers, and organizers can ensure the 2025 Suzuki ILCA Master European Championships sets a new standard for sustainable regattas in the UK, aligned with the values of the EurILCA Sustainability Programme.

Sailing all together towards sustainability,
The EurILCA Team
